It all began in September long weekend of 2016. On a plane alone away from her wonderful husband and 4 children for the first time - a woman embarked on a God-adventure. It was a leadership conference teaching Christians to be disciples instead of just church-goers. On this journey, God worked in her to re-dedicate her life to Jesus Christ and did so in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean of New Brunswick. Re-born, new and fresh, with water still dripping she declared to those present she would live her life as a disciple of Jesus Christ and be His servant. And she meant it.
The next years went by and she was engrossed in online theological learning through YouTube. She become infatuated and had an ever-growing intrigue at the different teachings on the Bible from different theological perspectives. Each church denomination focused on a part of the Bible in a unique way. This woman was surprised at how many different churches understood the Bible differently yet desired to whole-heartedly serve God. She was encouraged by the vast array of churches that were faithful yet different than her own.
During a time of fasting and prayer (fasting is a Spiritual Discipline she had just learned from this discipleship group and was foreign to her) in 2017, God led her, with clear instruction, to enroll into Theological Studies. It was a direction that shocked her. She resisted, "But God, I'm a woman? Isn't that only for men?". It was so bizarre to her that she resisted even thinking about it, but the intense nudging did not stop. She remembers shaking, "Could it really be? Could I really go?". This was not something she felt encouraged to study growing up in her religious environment. After the initial shock died down, she accepted the fact that furthering her education was something she always wanted, and since learning about the Bible was her favourite subject, she was quite passionate! She began researching schools. There was fear. There was excitement. There was a sense of wondering. But because she hadn't processed this in her mind, she kept this all a secret.
A short while later, again during another time of seeking God, The Lord again gave her more clear direction to apply to a small college connected to a university near her home, at the University of Waterloo. She felt God's urging that this was the only place she was to apply. The now eager student was surprised at God's direction again as she thought He would want her to go to Tyndale, a conservative seminary in Toronto. His urging continued and she went for a visit. After her visit she learned that she could receive a fully paid scholarship as she was a Canadian citizen, which was currently being offered! The woman was flabbergasted, astonished. She went home with the news to her husband. She worked early mornings on an application essay. Often God would wake her up suddenly at 3 am. "Wake up! Work on it now!". She had been sound a sleep, yet she awoke quickly. Often the clock was near this early morning hour. Each time she was awoken she was full of renewed energy, despite the hour. It was truly amazing. She sent in her application and in amazement, received early acceptance! She remembers being on her knees, with tears flowing from her eyes. This made her laugh with joy. It was all God. The drive to school was also only going to be a short for her, only 20 minutes from her home - which was perfect for a mom of 4 young school children. She smiled as she would be able to be home in the mornings to send her kids to school and also home in time to tidy and make dinner. She didn't know these things, but God did and He knew these things all along! It was a very exciting time. She voiced that:
"It is amazing to see God work so quickly -when He orchestrates something."
During her time of studies and seeking God, God gave HER another word "Servant". She remember writing a letter to her husband one day about her incredible God - journey and the interest in ministry and explaining it. This wife was nervous. "He's going to think I'm even more radical!"
With shaking hands
She wrote the name SERVANT.
During another time of seeking God, and while in prayer with her long-known friend, Angela Vanderwoude, in Sept 2019 - God gave a clear word. It was not related to the prayer. It was the word "Conferences", specifically women. She told Angela immediately and they prayed about it. Then they both went their separate ways, and it was put to the back of her mind. After-all, she was in school part-time. What happened over the next months was clear confirmations, one after the other, that something was brewing. She began to meet women who wanted to speak, some theologically-minded, others had a unique story, but would be please and support women, and all the while have Jesus Christ as focus. They were looking for an opportunity but it was hard to come by. Then a friend of hers, offered to help her start a website - something that was beyond her - as she was technologically unable at the time (in fact, she just learned how to put data on her phone while she was away from Wi-fi! lol). She was to organize ALL-denominational , multi-generational conferences that glorify God - and keep His Name Holy, with Jesus Christ as focus. It was to start with women. These conferences would give them a platform to teach one another. It would be a mobile worship and learn event. And there was to be celebration of womanhood with friends and food. It was to be a "no strings attached event" .
This woman is so excited because she knows that God doesn't need her - He can do this on His own. Every day she is thankful that He is allowing her to work with Him. He directs her like the loving Father He is and she, in turn, tries to be obedient.
After the organizing began, and it all is happening so quickly, thoughts came to this woman disciple's mind of all the hurting people, some who are stuck in a situation of spiritual stagnancy, without joy and enrichment. Some who, because of hurts, do not attend church anymore and no longer have the blessings of church membership. She thought, if they won't go to a church building, perhaps they would go to an All-women's buffet lunch conference?!?
All this while teaching the truth of Jesus Christ - in the hopes that all who believe in Him will be saved. After all,
Matthew 11:28 - "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest."
